Gene Sloan of USA Today says "Looking for a deal on a 2010 cruise? This might not be the year to wait",  and we agree.

"Thinking about booking a cruise for 2010? You might want to do it sooner rather than later. Industry watchers say ships are filling up faster than they did last year, and that means prices could be heading up."

Royal Caribbean Chief Financial Officer Brian Rice said bookings in recent months have been running significantly ahead of year-ago levels -- and pricing is following."

Don't forget -- Carnival & Royal Caribbean both have price protection policies.  Read the details here:  CARNIVAL   ROYAL CARIBBEAN

Mayor Gavin Newsom Gives Cunard’s Queen Victoria a Golden Gate  Welcome during Maiden Call to San Francisco

January 27th,  2010 – Wrapping up her Expedition of the Americas segment, a part of her current world voyage, Cunard Line’s Queen Victoria made her inaugural visit to San Francisco today. Welcoming her to this historic maritime port was the honourable Mayor Gavin Newsom, along with travel agents, media and local dignitaries – including the British Consul-General of San Francisco, Julian Evans. In addition, by official order of proclamation, Mayor Newsom declared today as “Cunard Queen Victoria Day” in San Francisco.

Carnival Fascination is latest cruise ship to get a major overhaul

Add the Carnival Fascination to the list of aging Carnival ships that have gotten an "extreme makeover."

Carnival says the popular vessel, which sails to the Bahamas out of Jacksonville, Fla., emerged today from an extended, $34 million dry dock that brought a new deck-top water park, a new adults-only lounge area and a redesigned main pool area.

The overhaul of the 15-year-old ship also brought the addition of balconies to 98 cabins that formerly just had windows -- a major structural change.

The 2,052-passenger Fascination is a workhorse of the Carnival fleet that sails short four- and five-day trips to Nassau, Freeport and Key West, Fla. It's a favorite of Southerners who can drive to Jacksonville to pick it up.

The ship is the sixth of Carnival's eight Fantasy Class vessels to get such a makeover as the line spends $350 million to revamp its oldest ships. The Carnival Inspiration and Carnival Imagination underwent a similar overhaul in 2007; the Carnival Fantasy was upgraded in 2008; and the Carnival Ecstasy and Carnival Sensation were redone in 2009.

As on the other ships getting face lifts, the Fascination's new water park area, dubbed WaterWorks, features a four-deck-high, 300-foot-long spiral water slide – among the longest at sea. It also has an 82-foot-long, dual-lane racing slide.

Upscale line Azamara puts Europe cruises on super sale

Upscale line Azamara Club Cruises has rolled out a major sale on upcoming summer voyages to Europe.

The two-ship company is offering two-for-one fare savings, an upgrade from an ocean-view cabin to a balcony cabin and a $500 on-board credit for sailings between April 25 and Nov. 20.

The offer is for new reservations only on ocean-view or higher category cabins and must be booked by the end of February (the upgrade piece of the offer is available through March 31). Both of Azamara's 694-passenger ships, the Azamara Journey and Azamara Quest, are included in the promotion.

Norwegian Cruise Line to sail newer, bigger ships to Bermuda in 2011

Fans of Bermuda cruises got some big news as Norwegian Cruise Line announced it would sail newer, more elaborate ships to the island nation starting in 2011.

Norwegian says the two-year-old, 2,400-passenger Norwegian Gem will take the place of the seven-year-old, 2,224-passenger Norwegian Dawn on its Bermuda run out of New York starting in May of 2011.

The Norwegian Dawn, in turn, will replace the smaller, older Norwegian Spirit on the line's Bermuda run out of Boston.
